Newt and American Bullfrog
Herpers,
Kiley Briggs forwarded this. It is not our newt. It looks like a Rough-skinned Newt from out west. They are more toxic than our Eastern Newts.
Matt Gorton and I were doing some herp survey in Fairfax yesterday. We saw scores of recently metamorphosed Pickerel Frogs, a single young Spring Peeper, and a few young Wood Frogs as well as Northern Dusky, Northern Two-lined, and Eastern Red-backed Salamanders, Eastern Newts, Green Frogs, and Common Gartersnakes. Our target species were Spring Salamander and American Bullfrog for Fairfax, but we did not locate either of those two.
